Before Peter Parker lost the first great love of his life. . .her father fell to one of Spider-Man's greatest adversaries. Little did Peter know after falling for Gwen Stacy that her father was one of the most respected former police officers in the NYPD. A strong supporter of Spider-Man, Captain George Stacy also took an instant liking to Peter, and openly encouraged the growing bond between the youngster and Gwen. But during a rooftop battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus, Captain Stacy sacrificed his life to protect a boy from falling masonry. His dying wish to Peter, who he knew was Spider-Man, pledged him to protect his daughter. It was a wish Peter desperately attempted to fulfill--but tragically, could not.
